I would like to install a GPS system with a backup camera. Or alternately I would like to install a back up camera separately from the GPS. Any recommendations on a combined GPS/backup camera system? Did Chevy offer a backup camera as an option? thanks

Take a trip to best buy or frys or your local electronics store.

DONT walk into a car audio scam shop.

Do all the work yourself. Its easy.

 

As far as a GPS system, I have a Garmin system which is "portable" and can be moved from car to car or any car with a 12V plug. I find that different GPS systems are a bit confusing as to their operation. The Garmin system is quite intuative, while Tom-Tom is not.

I don't know about backup camera systems, but have seen them installed at my mechanic's shop. It didn't look that hard for the install, just a lot of wires to run/hide.

 

The best option for a rear view camera + GPS in one is a double din with navigation.

When you think about the wires and screen involved, you would need to run a separate screen for the rear view camera and then another device for GPS

it's nice to just have that all in one.

you can get them pretty cheap used on craigslist. the new ones are pretty expensive, but best buy does have financing options

I got my DNX 6160 for $250 used and it was like new. I sold it for $380 recently....so they are definitely not cheap. I'm finding it hard to find a cheap one now too....kinda sucks...

I use my net 10 android phone for GPS though. but I need my double din back.

 

The rear view mirror/GPS/backup camera things are pretty cheap & look easy, check Ebay. Wireless camera makes it pretty easy, basically clip the new mirror onto your old mirror and find power. I think I saw one at PEPBoys for more.

 

Welcome to the site Enid0K. I use the nav all the time, I installed a alpine head unit, sounds great has all the bells and whistles, but I like useing my portable 7" in the top box better. It is way easier to look at it and drive, with it up in the dash.

 

I have a Pioneer X950BH unit and it has a wireless backup camera, GPS amd plays MP3s and videos from either DVD/CD-ROM or thumb drive. If you go with an aftermarket unit you will need an "interface module" so the buttons on the steering wheel will work. I have about $750 in mine with the $95 interface box, $25 antenna adapter and an extra $90 adapter cable for iPhones/thumb drives.

I did have to cut out the plastic wall behind the original stereo location so the cables will fit but it bolts right in and no programming is required.
