HHR Fall Drive-In Cruise
I'm planning a afternoon/evening trip to the Brazos Drive-In movie theater in Granbury, Texas. It would be fun to make this an HHR gathering, I hope many of you can attend.
I plan on leaving from Mansfield about mid/late afternoon Saturday October 14th and cruise Highways 360 to 67 to 114 through Glen Rose and on to the Brazos drive-in at Granbury. Along the way we'll stop and eat somewhere in Glen Rose and then make the short drive up 114 to the Brazos for the usual double feature they offer every weekend.

If you have never been to the Brazos this will be a perfect oppurtunity to enjoy a relaxing day of cruising through some less traveled roads and end up at a fun destination. There are several BBQ palces in Glen Rose that offer a break from the usual chain resturants and the drive-in is a great experience. The Brazos box office opens at 7:30ish and the first movie starts just after sunset. Cost is $18.00 per car ($13 if military/police/fire) cash only. At the Brazos the movies for the weekend are not annouced until the Monday before, but the first movie is generally more family orientated. Bring your lawn chairs or open up the back hatch, your choice. You can make a night of it and stay through both features or leave whenever you like. By mid-October the temperatures will be much better for an outdoor activity like this.
I'll get more detailed on the specifics in a few weeks if there is favorable response for this event.
For now let me know if you are interested.

It's still on, even if it's just me, wife, and son.

Event update
Here's the details on the cruise.
October 14th, Saturday. We'll start in Mansfield, I propose that we meet at the Home Depot shoping center just off highway 287 and Cooper. It is an easy place to find, large parking lot, we could easily gather there. Leave from Mansfield at 4:30 PM. Head south on highway 287, it's about a 20 minute trip to highway 67. Turn west on highway 67. If needed there are several gas-n-go type convience stores about halfway to Glenrose at the highway 67/I-35 exchange. Otherwise it is just under an hour to get to Glenrose. In Glenrose we'll eat Ranch House BBQ.

I took the family there last weekend. VERY good cookin. They have been featured in Texas Monthly, and for good reason. The food is awesome, brisket, suasage, chicken fried steak (my wife's favorite), great pork chops, fried oakra, jalapeno potato salad, and don't forget the chocolate pecan pie.
Nice place to eat, they have outdoor patio seating if the weather is good. Cash or check only at the Ranch House. Sorry no credit/debits. Here's a link to more info http://www.glenrosearea.com/Restaura...hbbq/rhbbq.htm
and to prove how good it is, here's my son Chase. He doesn't even have teeth yet and you can see it in his eyes, good food.

After we roll ourselves out of Ranch House it is just a short 20-25 minute drive up 144 to Granbury and the Brazos Drive in. Gates open at 7:30, show starts at 8:00ish. I aim to be there just after the gates open. We sould have ample time to find a good spot for all of us and get comfortable before the show starts. Bring your lawn chairs, coolers, portable radios, any thing else you think will make the drive in experience fun. Just a reminder $18 per car cash only, discounts for police/fire/military. More info on the Brazos at this link http://www.thebrazos.com/home.htm

The Brazos shows double features, which are announced the Monday/Tueday before. You can stay through both movies or leave anytime you wish, it's every man for himself afterwards, I'm sure we all have different directions to go to get home. I suggest if you have a longer drive to make, you might consider leaving after the first film, depending on the run time for the movies the second show could run as late as 11:30-12, just depends on how far you have to go. If you want a more direct route back to Fort Worth / I-20 turn left out of the drive-in and take highway 377. It's up to each, I won't be offended if anyone leaves early, it's all just for fun.
OK, so there's the details, let me know if there are any questions, and please if you haven't already, post if you intend to make it.
