Anyone here from Orangeburg or the surrounding area? We may be looking at a move there, and I would like to get some first-hand instead of we-surfing impressions. THanks.

What are the schools like? The high school that we are considering leaving has AP classes, a 100+ member orchestra that my daughter is a part of, and a 400+ member band that my son will be a part of. The schools are going to be a huge factor, along with the standard of living in the town. I am looking for something within 30 minutes of Orangeburg.

Your best bet is going to be Columbia. That is the closest city. Larger schools. Sorry, but can't comment on the schools there. But the Charleston or Summerville area would put you about and hour + to Orangeburg on a good day (leaving from Summerville). You need to be looking at the South or East part of Columbia. You will be right at 30 min away.

Solman, is there anything between Orangeburg and SUmmerville? My wife likes being closer to Charleston.

I visit Santee Cooper all across SC.

I still have a rental home in Hopkins, and I agree, you will be looking very hard to match the schools with what you have now. A good place to look is near Columbia at Irmo and in that area.
