I've been toying with the idea of a new muffler for some sound. My local guy wants an arm and leg ($325) for a muffler change...Not a cat back...I said No..ok I said more then no, but any So.Cal. people have any recomendations or cost figures that are more reasonable?

 

WOW, that is sooooooooo out of line! I'd say a nice Magnaflow wood be nice. I've heard a few and they have a nice low sound without being ricey.

 

I had an IMCO T-924 which I liked the sound of.
I got it and a stainless steel tip and instal for around $200. The tip was the majority of the cost.

Louder exhaust outside also means louder in the car. I changed my muffler..all chrome, sweet low sound, but the reverb noise inside is loud. I wouldn't change it, but on a road trip up the Rockies, It drove me crazy!! Todd(Uma)

 

The first muffler I tried was a magna flow because that is all I ran in the past. It was way too loud and kinda sluggish. The imco is the best bang for your buck. A little louder than stock but not ricey, and a noticable increase in performance....

 

Only thing about IMCO is its not Stainless.

 

I'd talk to bob from allied muffler in bellflower. He's the one that did ours, and I believe with labor it was under $200. Great guy, does a lot of stuff for the LX crowd.

I do have a concern about more noise inside as I spend 2 hours a day in my HHR when I'm in town.

Heard the sound clip for Mitzkity's and it did sound good.

Stainless is not so much of an issue in So.Cal. as we do not deal with the adverse weather conditions... my '48 coupe still has no rust and the same muffs since 1994. Rust is not allowed in California :LOL:-)

More power is good, but not the main issue...sound is what I'm after...

I've driven her car back and forth to work a few times. If you aren't gunning it, it's pretty tame. A bit deeper, no real drone or annoyance. When you "Stomp it" and downshift, it wakes up pretty significantly. If you want a touch less noise, add a resonated tip and it will lower the sound slightly.
