Possible SoCalHHRs G2G / Steve McQueen fans! June 14, 2008
Ed found this in this months issue of WestWays magazine, a AAA club monthly publication.
I am not sure I would be able to go to this one although I just love Steve McQueen. We have a grand baby due about the week of this event so we are staying close to home.
"No movie star is more associated with a passion for driving than Steve McQueen. His expertise with fast cars and motorcycles is featured in four classic films: Bullitt , The Great Escape, Le Mans, and On Any Sunday. There's even a book about the subject: McQueen's Machines: The Cars and Bikes of a Hollywood Icon (Motorbooks, 2007) .
On June 14, the Friends of Steve McQueen Car Show will be held on the site of Boys Republic, 3493 Grand Avenue, in Chino Hills, from 7 A.M. to 2 P.M. Proceeds will go to Boys Republic, a private nonprofit school and treatment facility for troubled youth. McQueen was a resident at the school as a boy and a strong supporter of it later in life.
Several cars and motorcycles owned by McQueen will be displayed at the show, and cars from various sports car clubs will also be featured, as well as live music and In-N-Out burgers. For more information, call Ron Harris at : (562) 755-8405 or e-mail hrh@betbev.com. -John Lehrer".
