Saying Hi!
Greetings,
i've been lurking around here for a few days, mainly looking up info for an HHR. My girlfriend is really keen on getting one this weekend (she's looking into getting a black one with sunroof and the faster engine).
Now, I have a question...i'm wondering if you folks could help us out. Are all sunroofs on the HHR's a dealer installed option? Are there any HHR's that are shipped from the factory with the sunroof?
thank you kindly, cheers!

All the sunroofs are Factory Installed. There is a lot of mechanics involved. In fact I would assume that the stamping for roof is different. You have to consider that they need extra room between the headliner and the roof (different headliner) all the gears and wiring for the glass, tracks for the sun shade, drip rail, and drain tubes that extend into the A pillers.
I suppose you could install an after market kit but the glass wouldn't disappear under the skin of the roof, it wouldn't be power, and from reports from others (different models of vehicles) it would eventually leak.
I used to have a Neon with a factory sunroof that I had to repair several times, It was a love hate kinda thing. I loved the sunroof when it worked but it was a pain in the keester when it broke and I had to repair it. Even though my HHR does not have a sunroof I have looked at the way they are setup and the complexity is similar to the Neon. It is not something you can just install by just cutting a hole in the roof and bolting in. The front section of the roof is completely different to allow for the mechanics to fit.
