Code P0089
This code has popped up twice now on me. Once last week after my ESC kicked in (made a left turn, caught a wet spot/sand and the tires spun, then "caught"- CEL came up). I took it to the dealer and they cleared it after finding nothing wrong (CEL had "dissappeared" by then). Now yesterday out of the blue the CEL comes on again. After calling Onstar and having run a quick diagnostic check, the same CEL appeared (P0089 Fuel Rail Pressure Regulator Performance). I thought it was due to the new IC and piping but since it's the same code I'm thinking I need to bring it back to the dealer and get the part replaced. Anyone concur? Considering this is a DI engine I don't want to wind up replacing the motor if the FRP fails and the motor runs lean. What would cause the FRP to act erratically like that? I use only 93 premium since day one, even before the GM turbo upgrade. If this needs to be moved, mods please do so...:thumb:

Here is some information:
P0089 • The fuel pressure adjustment is greater than +2,500 kPa (+363 psi) or less than -2,500 kPa (-363 psi). • The DTCs set when the above conditions are met for 4 seconds. Action Taken When the DTC Sets • DTCs P0087, P0088, and P0089 are Type A DTCs. • A message center or an indicator displays Reduced Engine Power when DTC P0087 sets. Conditions for Clearing the DTC DTCs P0087, P0088, and P0089 are Type A DTCs. Diagnostic Aids • A skewed fuel rail pressure (FRP) sensor may set these DTCs. • Faulty fuel injectors may set DTCs P0087 or P0089. |
Thanks for the info! I'll look into that + at least I have something to talk to the service guy about. :thumb:

Updating this: I dropped the car off at the dealer this morning and what they found was that the wire harness for the FPR was tied with a "wire tie" which pulled that wire out of the harness! Keep in mind I have no idea where that harness is so that tells me it came like that from the factory! So I pick the car up and about 5 miles away the car goes into limp mode and I have NO boost and the car won't go over 65-70 mph; also there was no CEL either... :( I'll see how the car works on the way home (I'm at work and can't bring the car back to the dealer) and report back to you folks.
