Possible alternative for seal

ok I realize this is an old thread but i thought this might help someone. I needed a replacement rubber seal for my HHR vent canister solenoid, read through this thread and was frustrated to find that the rubber seal has been discontinued. So i started looking for alternatives online and then went to a local auto parts store, solenoid in-hand, to see what they had that might work. I found this Dorman Dipstick Grommet which fit like a glove, took it home and it fit nice and tight into the vent canister.

Fingers crossed this puts an end to the large leak code i’ve been getting since buying the HHR and ultimately found that when someone replaced the solenoid they never moved the seal to the new one.

Any updates? I have the "p0455 Code - System Gross Leak Evaporative Emission" code as well as "check gas cap" on the DIC every so often. Curious if this will do it.

Local auto zone has one in stock, I will grab a few just to have spares.

It's been about a year and I swapped the cap, front and rear canister/purge valves based on their code reader suggestion for no reason..lol. If this works, this will be funny. Glad this place still exists though.

Also...My local junk yard had 4 HHR's that I wish I would have harvested parts from. Of course I get a fixer-upper SS AFTER they crush all 4 and I need a bunch of random parts...oh well

Well it's been a few months or at least 1 month since I swapped the grommet and I haven't reset the codes on my car in 500+ miles. Did remove the negative battery terminal to swap it out not too long ego though. Either the car has not done it's self-tests yet, or it actually worked.

I managed to salvage 3 from the junk yard.

Here are some better pictures of them.

You might be able to copy them by trimming the grommet from autozone properly.
