Getting a new Turbo

I have been having turbo boost problems like others here. My dealer ordered a new waste gate over a month ago as a first step fix. Just got a call telling me the part is in.

Well....actually they didn't get a waste gate, they got the entire turbo unit.

They figure it to be a 3 hour install...but are setting up a loaner in case things get weird..."we've never done this before."

My question, If you were gettting a new turbo unit installed, what else would you beg/demand that they do while under the hood?

Check sensor wiring....solder them if possible....heat tape them...check plastic wiring things/clips....check distance between lower sensor and ic piping....

What else?

Thanks!

I would ask that they please take their time (since it's the first one) and put everything back in it's right place. IMO not the wise time to be demanding and besides.....they could always screw it up and do it right on your return visit.

not much to "demand". I have had two turbo units installed......it's easier to order the whole turbo, than find that select part.

in my case:
- at 10K the OEM turbo bearings went.....not the general's fault...it's an imported part go figure
- at 15K, they ordered a new wastegate or BOV....I forget....instead they received a whole new unit.

Both times install was fine.....I even have the Brake-fix auxilary pump. Two different shops performed the above installs....so more than one GM shop is capable is my point.

Other....if you say the name I will know it...it alludes me at the moment. Its a major manufacture for many OEMs.

They just ordered a new wastegate and solenoid for mine today, but my problem was electrical! They claim the codes they pulled show a faulty wategate and solenoid. Whatever, we'll see what happens.

Got the new turbo installed.....took them 5 hours with lunch. Grimm Chevy in Morton do good work....my car was their first stage kit install and mine was the first turbo they had to replace. Both times they've got the job w/o hassles.

Drove home and waited until I had a couple hundred miles on it before
seeing what was up with the new hardware.

Hooray! It holds the boost or even gains in boost.

Well....for a week.

Now the engine light is on again. It dumps power on occastion...bucks, jumps, stumbles....pick a word!

0 to 60 in like...15 seconds? Maybe 20??

Any thoughts on what went wrong?

Crazy stuff!
