A DOG ran across my path and I Quickly and Safely Manuvered my HHR so as not to hit or harm the poor disoriented creature. I Never left the roadway and saw the dog safely cross the street in my rearview mirror as I passed it. And POW the airbags went off and Almost KILLED ME!

That's my story and I am Sticking to it!

Well, latest news.

I was instructed by the service manager to put a ticket into the GM customer support center.

Customer support apologized, took my information and advised that they need to pass the information onto a special department (PAR) within customer support. This group was to follow up within 24 hours.

I have a strange feeling that I may not see the car again for a few weeks...

Latest

They gave me an ultimatum, 1) they send an inspector out and go through the inspection process, basically a black box download or 2) I go ahead and call the insurance agent and get a claim filed and the car repaired.

I told them to send the inspector. The inspector will be at the dealership within 3 to 5 days. Based on the results of his report, they will determine what they want to do which can take 20 to 60 days. So after this 20 to 60 day period, they can either tell me that a) everything worked as intended, get your car fixed on your own or b) something was broken and this should not have happened, we'll fix your car.

The rep. told me that the roof airbags can go off if the vehicle senses that it is going to be in a rollover accident, even if it doesn't rollover. (you auto-crossers and track day folks better keep that in mind!) GM is basically implying that the airbags did what they were supposed to do, but the rep. was quick to state that that was not GM's final position until they perform the vehicle inspection.

So now it is a waiting game.

If that's true, then my FRONT airbags can deploy whenever the hell my car THINKS I'm about to get into an accident-regardless of collision. I certainly hope this isn't the case.

If what GM believes is true, within their initial assumption, then you had to have done some SERIOUS cornering. You sure you didn't loft it?
