HHR-SS -Service - Changing Oil Filter

The mechanics you are talking to think its the same engine as the LSJ (2.0 SUPERCHARGED) this was difficult to change because the supercharger was right above the filter. Not so on the LNF, and I doubt they have even touched ANYTHING w/ and LNF being the first thing with it is the sol/sky and no1 has an HHR SS that has needed a change yet.

Yeah, mechanics are usually the last people to know about a "new" model. I don't know how many times I (to this day) still have to educate mechanics that think an LS1/6/2/3 etc... is just a small block chevy. Its only been around for over a decade now
What are they smoking? THe HHR is one of the easiest cars to do an oil change on.

Was talking to 2 owner/mechanics at local gas station today. They were asking me about my HHR and how I liked it.
The subject of the new HHR-SS came up and I was telling them that it has the 2.0 litre turbo charged motor.
There response was,"that's the one that they recommend Mobil 1 oil and it costs $90.00 for the oil change because of the difficulty getting at the oil filter".
Apparently they were told that some diassembly was required to get at the filter, which incures extra time.
They had not had the opportunity to see first hand how true that statement was.
Anyone aware of this issue? It would be nice to know, especially for those of us who do our own oil changes.

Engine Oil (2.0L L4 engine)
The engine requires a special engine oil meeting GM Standard GM4718M. Oils meeting this standard can be identified with the American Petroleum Institute (API) Certified for Gasoline Engines starburst symbol. However, not all synthetic API oils with the starburst symbol will meet this GM standard. Look for and use only an oil that meets GM Standard GM4718M. For the proper viscosity

Here is what GM recommends straight from the owners manual:

First it says they meet, then says, not all meet.
Appears to be another of GM's proof reading goofs

I just paid $114.71 (CAD) for an oil change on my 2008 HHR SS. The dealership said it was because of the use of synthetic oil. The breakdown for the complete oil change is:
Synthetic lube oil & filter: $23.50
Filter: $5.95
Filter Env Handling: $.50
EHC Env Handling: $.60
Oil: $12.70
Oil: $63.50
Clof: $2.50
plus tax.
As you can see the main charge was the oil. I will be buying my synthetic oil in bulk and will be taking it in to the dealership myself. I am also going to buy a box of GM oil filters in bulk and take them in. That way I can go to any oil, lube & filter place and I will just pay for the labour. I can't believe GM is charging over $50 for a regular oil change these days. Import oil changes don't even cost that much and they're actually reputable cars!
