Question Launching issues

I'm new to the HHR SS world I have only had it for three months and love it. It is an auto and I took delivery of it with the GMS1 kit. When I try to launch it in Comp mode or ESC off mode if (really more like when) it starts to spin the turbo boost falls to 0. If I let off the gas all the way and floor it again everything is fine. It is fine if I roll the gas on and it doesn't spin. Any ideas?

This may or not be it but it is something to check if you have the GM performance upgrade kit.

The T map on the lower intake can hit the AC compressor under hard acceleration. This shorts the sensor and kills the boost to make it drop to zero.

Just crawl under the nose and put a piece of foam or something to block the sensor connection from hitting the AC compressor. If it stops the drop in boost you need to have the dealer move the Intercooler forward. It does not need much and can be done with fender washers.

Mine and other had similar issues because of clearance.

There are a few other things it can be but this is one that is easy to check.

The moving of the IC should be under warranty yet.

I used a piece of roll bar padding to confirm it then had the dealer make the repair. This is an issue confirmed by GMPD on some SS. Not many but some and it only happens under hard acceleration.

Note the clearance issue can not be seen on a rack since the engine is not under a load and torqued back on th mounts.

Mine does the same thing. It did it before the upgrade as well. I haven't dug in to it very far but what you're looking at is a form of "Abuse Management" to keep warranty costs low. I asked More_Torque_More_Hp about it but haven't heard back yet.

Bottom line is, as much as we might not care for it, the vehicle is operating as designed.

Yes the Engine managment system does control engine power but it seldom dumps it to zero PSI. You may only hit 15 PSI in some conditions and 9 in others. It just depends on many factors.

Normally if you hit Zero boost you have some sort of an issue as this engine is set to work with at least some kind of boost all the time. With no boost it runs really bad.

Map issues, Conection issues and tubing issues all can create zero boost or over boost issues.

The reasom I pointed out the T Map and AC is this is a problem that has happened on more than one SS and only under hard acceleration. It is a easy one to check before you go after the much harder stuff it could be.

It might be. There are a couple things that could do it but this is one you can check yourself and one the dealer can easily over look if you don't know about it. Most dealers don't know.
