Yea that is the right part number but GM told me last week that there is not one anywhere, they told me to have mine rebuilt or salvage yard.

They are on National Back Order, so the odds are that they will be making some soon.
I have ordered one & it is on B.O,. & I will post if & when I receive this part..:twothumbs:.

I remember some posts from several YEARS ago that those axles were on a National back order.

Hope it's not the same back order and it's just not getting done.

Thread reopened and moved to SS forum. There is relevant info here. We now have 2 members using the GM8206 axle shafts.

Also known as 179206, I'm thinking the "206" is the important part. It is listed for Malibu, G6, Aura.

Here are the specs for those with a tape measure in hand.

You mentioned that there should be some play, maybe a few inches, for when you drive over bumps. I'm hoping these GM8206 are not longer than OEM, so that there would not be as much free play. If someone takes out an OEM axle shaft, please measure overall length.

The drawing shows compressed length, would it still be compressed after removal?

When I removed my LS drive shafts they compressed an inch or two but extended out about 4 inches

They move freely in/out. That entire can is the flex space the boot hold it out some.

Installation instructions even warn against pulling on the axle or you can pull the whole thing apart.

been on here looking for info to help me out with my axle issue. I have a 2009 auto SS, my driver side axle boot is torn and leaking, went with the GM8206 like mentioned and it does NOT fit from what i can tell. its slightly longer overall and it does not fit over the stub shaft. my second issue is the driver side came out WITHOUT the stub shaft, its still in the tranny! any ideas to get it out?? lastly my center hub bolt is 35MM not 36MM!! on both sides its the same 35MM. so i am just stumped at this time. any help would be appreciated.

There is no stub on the driver side. Somebody replaced the nuts with hardware store nuts; They are supposed to be one off.
