Question Lug RPM?

I've come to the conclusion that 1500 RPM is about the lowest practical RPM with any real load. Are others seeing that?

If I see the RPM dropping to near 1500, I drop a gear. Yes, I know this isn't an LS1/2/6 so I don't expect a bunch of low end torque. I was only wondering if others have come to the same conclusion.

My 2.4L auto will get down to 1500 rpm in 4th gear lock up at ~40 mph, any slower the transmission will kick out lock up. Any gas pedal pressure, the car shifts to 3rd gear.

My SS auto torque converter will lock up at 45mph to 1500 rpm with light throttle to a very nice low growl and pull steady from there.

You were talking about a 5 speed, right?

That certainly reflects my observations with the same engine/tranny.
