Manual Shift Light

I just picked up an 09 HHR SS with a manual transmission. In looking through my owners manual I noticed that there is a light on the dash that tells you when to shift to maintain optimum fuel economy. I have this light but it never seems to come on, and I can't find anywhere in the manual that tells you how to activate it. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

On page 2-32 of my manual it says that "there maybe be a shift light". My guess is you don't have it with an SS.

I've had my shift light come on, but it only does so a split-second before it falls on it face...rev-limiter/fuel cut-off.

The indicator is above the tach on all models. But seems to be rare for it to be functional. Never heard of anyone that saw theirs light up.

Chapter 3 in all years.

Interesting. Here is a great feature to save you gas and it doesn't actually work. I called my dealer today because he has ordered me a set of all weather floor matts, and I brought up the issue with him. He said he would look into and let me know. If I hear anything I will let everyone know. Thanks for your responses.
