Maybe optimum fuel economy doesn't involve shifting....

The one way to know for sure if the light is supposed to work or even connected is as soon as you fire up the ignition all the dash lights pop up.

I myself was actually hoping to have the shift up light since Ive had it in the past in my other Chevy's and is pretty handy for saving mileage or playing my music too loud and forget to shift up cause I can't hear my engine revving stupid high LOL
It seems the SS shift up light was disabled

Wouldn't keeping boost/vac as close to zero do the same thing? You could also keep an eye on inst economy on the DIC.

I never liked idiot lights anyway.

The indicator is above the tach on all models. But seems to be rare for it to be functional. Never heard of anyone that saw theirs light up.

Chapter 3 in all years.
Sorry to revive an old thread, but I went searching for this topic this morning.

Mine has never lit up in more than 15+ months of ownership-until last night.
I thought the bulb was burned out, or it was deprogrammed to not light up.

However, last night I stomped on it - and this strange orange flash came from the dash-there was the little shift light. I was doing doing about 5500 RPMS, and had just started to shift.

I used to have a similar light on my old '91 Siverado with MT, that thing lit up all the time-more for fuel efficiency.

On the HHR, it seems more like a warning light-like you better shift-or else. (if it was for optimal fuel efficiency, it should come on around 3000-3500 RPMS).

My shift lights come on all the time; only thing is that they're in the Aeroforce gauges I installed, not in the dash.
