New Turbo (Hopefully)

Alright, wish me luck guys. I got an appt to take Red in to the shop to see if I can get the turbo fixed/replaced under warranty. I have been getting an awful scraping sound for a while now when I shift while in boost. Best I can tell, I think its the sound of the impeller blades knocking the housing.

The service guy didn't seem to happy when I described the issue. Worst case, if they won't fix it under warranty, I hope Rally still has that K04 for sale and I'll switch it out myself.

Depending on what happens and whether Rally has his still or not, I might hit you up for it. Depending on what you'll let it go for...

Are you removing all your aftermarket parts/tune?

I'll do a write entire to flash it back to stock, but I am not removing anything. I have already had it in there for a new HPFP they covered under warranty with my mods, so hopefully, I won't run into any issues this time either.

I'll know by the end of next week whether or not I need to pick up yours. Do you happen to know of any written steps to pull this thing and replace it? (just in case)

Alright, so in prep for taking Red into the shop tomorrow, I did a full write and put him back to stock. Now, for the life of me, I can't get the grind to present itself. Good and bad I guess. I called the dealer and canceled the appt for the time being.

It looks like maybe the issue has been in the tune all along. I flashed back to a "scald the dog" tune I wrote early on (completely different than what I had been running) and its not present there either. Hmm..

So, for the guys that know HPTuners, do y'all know of anything in the tune that would cause a noise that sounds like the impeller hitting the housing? Would an issue with the wastegate or BPV be caused or exacerbated by the tune and make this type of noise?

It sounds just like this:

I can email a copy of the tune to anyone if they want to see it.

Thanks in advance guys...

Can you describe the problem in more detail?

When I'm in boost and go to shift, i get a scratching/squelch type sound. I'm not sure how to best describe it. Its not the sound of the BPV or the intake. Sounds like two pieces of heavy metal rubbing together. Its very brief. More prevalent in the 1-2 and 2-3 shifts than in higher gears. It will present itself sometimes just on a quick release of the throttle, without shifting. Get on it hard and let off quickly.

Again, with the stock tune loaded and with a different tune than what I have been running since mid-summer, I don't hear it. I have tried to record a video of it, but its not loud enough to pick up and distinguish over the rest of the noise.

I am planning to get James to write me a solid tune. I just want to make sure I don't make an existing issue worse, if it is mechanical.
