No Lift Shift Squeal

I've had my 2010 HHR SS 5spd for about 6 months now and finally started to try out the no lift shifting. So far I have only done it with a 3 - 4 shift and it is very interesting with the lurch forward at such a speed and no lag.

But my question is the nasty Squeal sound I get. Its only for a split second after the clutch engage. The best way to describe the sound is that it reminds me of the squeal you use to get from the old cars with power steering if you turned the wheel too far. But its just for a split second.

What is that? It don't sound good at all and because of it, I really don't do that no lift all that much.

I've searched the other threads and nobody has ever may comment of a sound during no lift shifting.

Interestingly enough, I have owned an auto SS and now a 5-speed and BOTH make the sound your describing when shifting from first to second. The only time I notice the squeal with the 5speed is when I'm using the no lift feature also.

Maybe the sudden change in engine speed is causing a slip in the serpentine belt?

Turbo Squeal maybe? I've only done the "no lift" a few times just to try it out. I also heard the same squeal noise. At the time I thought the noise was from the turbo. Thinking maybe it is the very short period of torque load/unload as you clutch/shift. Just my guessing here.

Well Im glad I dont have a unique sound here but that also does not mean this is okay. Im kind of hoping all 5spd SS guys will say they get it. At that point I would say its normal.

It's the clutch sliping when engaging, stock clutch doesn't like quicks shift or no lift to shift. My clutch does it too and to fix the problem with a aftermarket clutch.

i would not advise nls when tuned with an aftermarket clutch......many clutches have claimed tuned cars' trannies

Ok so let me get this, the squeal during the no-lift shift is the clutch slipping. Is this intended by design to keep the engine from ripping it self apart during such a hard high HP shifts? I mean it makes sense, but does not sound good for a clutch.

I found a nice long thread on CobaltSS.net about this same question. Lots of guys there get the same sound. The majority of them think its the serpentine belt and a few think its the BPV.

The sounds is Definately a belt slip sound. As I originally said it sounds like an old car with power stirring when you turn too far with the wheel. I dont think its the valve because it just dont sound like that. But I could be wrong since I dont know what out BPV even sounds like.

Nobody mentioned a clutch....and man I hope its not a clutch slipping.

Someone brought up a good point though; that no lift shifting is supose to be done just before redline. Anyone ever heard of that? I was doing mine at about 5500.
