Oil filter and prices

Okay, I know this has been discussed before, and I know that all the Eco-techs use the same filter, but I know the SS group takes performance seriously...

What oil filter are you all using and where do you get them?

I was using the stock GM (Delco pf457g) filter and getting a good deal from my dealer, but the guy who I dealt with left the dealer and the new guy won't deal I used to get them for around $5/ea in bulk (no box), now they want around $8 ea.

I sell Fram, KNN, Delco and several others at work and I stick to the Delco. There good enough for GM's 100,000 mile powertrain warranty they are good enough for me.

I get mine at cost something like $3 or $4.

Many here pay near that much for a beer at a NFL game. I don't really sweat the pennies on my filters even at full cost.

AC/Delco

My dealer used an AC on my first oil change. The list price on it was $8 bucks, and my price was $5 buck give or take a few cents. Your guy is trying to charge you full llist price. O'Reilly's handles AC filters and should be able to sell them to you for around 5 bucks. I agree, if they are good enough for the GM 100 thousand waranty, they are good enough for me. My car will probably always get the oil changed at my dealer. $32 for the oil, filter, o-ring, and labor. I can't do it much cheaper myself, have to hassle with getting rid of the used oil, and I am getting too old to crawl under anything but my 72 Mach 1 Mustang.

Note Delco sells the filter with and with out the cap. Make sure to buy the one with out the cap unless you have damaged the one you have.

No cap filters retail around $5 and the one with the cap and gasket are $11 if I recall properly. They are not that bad if you do get the one you have cross threaded.

Yeah, I used to get them for about $5 before the guy that would deal left the dealership. The new guy is just giving me list price, so I will go somewhere else. Too bad, I really liked to support my local dealer, even if they only make a small amount.... I have always been a believer in using the "fatory" filters when it makes sense, but I think the Purelators are probably a good choice as well.

Thank you all for your responses.

Filters

My Dad used to run a NAPA store. This is several years ago, but I remember an oil filter display he had where the filters were cut away showing how much filtering material they had. Fram was the worst, very little material. AC, and Motocrast were good, a lot more filter material than the Fram. Wix/Napa ( the same thing) had considerably more filtering material than the others. Don't know about other brands, these were all the display had. On my classic cars, I have always used Wix or Napa, guess some thing do stick. ON my new cars, I always use the GM brand, that way there is no possibility about them *****ing about cheap or non-spec oil filters if something happens to go wrong with the engine.
