Rough idle on start up.

Is it normal for a rough idle when starting the 2.0L for the first 20 seconds? Once the psi goes to it's normal setting it stops. We are getting some extreme heat up here in Canada, so I don't know if that may have something to do with it. Thanks, to any help given.

it shouldn't be rought though it will be louder during the cat warm up cycle. rough idle can come from many things but none that i can think of will go away in 20 seconds...basically after the cat warm up cycle is complete. i would think it has something to do with cat warm up.

Rough idle or slightly higher idle? The SS's motor really loves it's vacumn components and tends to ride around 1200 rpm until like you said, it builds PSI then settles down. If you asked me the worst sound is the fuel pump ticking away like a tapping valve.A Diesel comes to mind.

I'd follow above and check your plugs. A mis-fire code has to happen a certain number of times over a certain period of time to throw a code, bad plugs will do the same without triggering a code.

Thanks guys, I will check the plugs. Is there anything thing else it could possibly be? The reason I ask, is because my car has only 23,000 kms. Which for you guys is about 18,000 miles.

I would take it in and let them check it. I have never experienced any rough idle, faster and noisier on start-up yes, but not rough. Eh, so it's safe to say the ice is off the lake ??

Agreed. I got mine used, and I was nervous about buying it after listening to it with the hood open. It's quite clattery, and unpleasant-sounding. But not rough-running, just crappy-sounding.

Make sure your MAF sensor is snuggly seated my friend. That may be able to cause some of it.

Ya, the ice has been off long ago, we are cooking eggs now on rocks. It's a funny thing, it didn't do it this morning, when I left for work. It feels like something is trying to get through the exhaust on start up. Almost like the old carbarated engines. (No shaking or rattling though) The car has done this since I had it, but not every day. Maybe it's just the heat getting to me.

Thank you Officer 1151, I'll double check it.
