Lately when I start up the car and begin driving I can hear a swooshing of liquid coming from the general direction of the dash area when going around turns. The only thing I can figure is that it is engine coolant. I don't seem to notice it when the car warms up on the way to work.

I don't ever remember hearing this sound until recently, but maybe I just never paid attention or had the stereo blasting? Anybody have the same experience? I've heard the same thing in my Grand Prix also in the past.

 

Check your coolant as it is most likely low.

 

Yes it will go away once the air works out.

 

I had a Ford Escort once that made a sloshing sound of water moving when I turned left or right. It was condensed water in the air conditioning duct work that was trapped because of a clogged drain tube. I located the drain tube under the front of firewall and stuck a coat hanger up the drain tube. That cleared out the debris from the drain tube and allowed the trapped water to drain. May not be your problem, but could be?

I have this same problem.
I hear the sound of flowing liquid (bubbling) when I start the engine.
I know it's coolant. The coolant level has decreased. But I could not understand - why? I carefully inspected all the tubes. I have carefully examined all the connections. I checked the engine oil. Everything works fine.
Alakha only knows where it goes antifreeze from this vacuum cleaner.
I think with horror about the automatic transmission.
What do you think guys?

 

All cars lose a little coolant over time. Some internal most from the water pump seal or other external places. Normally it is a non issue and you just need to keep the over flow full.

Once the level drops the HHR has a coolant system that is more difficult to fill. best to park it on a hill or jack it up when filling to keep the radiator fill are the highest point. This will help get the air out of the system. In time most will work out once the overflow tops it off. Just keep it full and watch it does not drop and not get refilled.

I didn't think it was normal to have antifreeze levels drop? I've never needed to add any to my cars except for my Lumina, when the intake gasket went bad and the antifreeze leaked into the engine...

 

The amounts can depend on many things. It can vary from vehicle to vehicle and conditions driven.

A little loss is not a major cause of worry. Just check the antifreeze at the oil change and top it off if needed. Many cars lose no antifreeze but a little is not unusual either.

As cars age they also may see a little more loss. Seals on the water pumps weep a little some cars a small leak in a head gasket or intake can lose some. Also hoses can seep or weep a little antifreeze in small amounts that go un noticed.

My point is just check the antifreeze at the oil change and if you have to add a little once in a great while not to panic. Now if you have to fill the overflow once a month you need to look around and see where it is going. Usally if the leak is of a nature you need to address it you already have found it.

Engine will use some fluids just the nature of the beast.

 

check the drain on ur a/c. it should be located under the hood on the firewall. not sure exactly because i have not look at where mine is at. but they are usually there maybe a little lower on some cars. could be condensation inside the a/c. or could be leaking heater core. but if u do not smell coolant most likely not that u would smell it. it would also fog up ur windshield too. if it is water in the a/c im suprised it hasnt leaked in the floor yet or maybe it just hasnt gotten enough to come out in the car yet.
