Squeaky front struts

Hi All,

Been awhile since I posted here.

I have 2010 HHR SS with approx 42k for miles. I've noticed that when it's cold out I get squeaking from the front struts every time I hit a bump in the road. Here in Mass we've had a pretty cold winter. When it's warm out I don't get the squeaking or anything.

anyone else experience this?

In the temps that we have had here in Ohio all my cars make some kind of noises that aren't there in normal weather. Could be ice making noise of just cold plastic parts, If the noise is not there in normal temps I would worry about much right now.

Yeah. I doubt it's actually the struts themselves. Probably some other part of the suspension. Most likely something that has a rubber bushing.
Swaybar, control arm, etc.
Rubber bushings + cold very often produce squeaks or creaks.

Fwiw. My 2010 SS is quiet down to about 22 degrees. Coldest it's seen.

Yep, I get that, too, on 2006.

Hey all!

Bummer to hear that this cold weather is bringing out some squeaks in your struts. We appreciate both positive and constructive feedback regarding our vehicles. I would be happy to document your experiences within our system, so that it can be forwarded on to the appropriate department. If this is something that you would like me to document within our system please do not hesitate to reach out via PM.

Sincerely,

Jonathan A.

Yeah its most likely the swaybar bushings. If you can get to them try spraying some silicone lube spray in there and see if the noise changes.

What Prod suggests in the above post can also be used for other areas of concern. HOWEVER.....I would do one area and then test, at a time. This way you can isolate where the problem exists and make the necessary correction without additional expenses.

Thanks for the replies! I figured it was just due to the colder weather but figured I'd see what everyone had to say.
