For me Premium but I have used regular a few times. GM recommends Premium but does not require it for the SS unless you have the Upgrade. People will argue both ways.

Agreed, the car seems to run a tad better on premium. With regular it feels a bit sluggish.

That's what I figured but I wanted to make sure. I ran premium in my 80 911 and my 90 blown Mustang GT. So is it 3k or 5k between synthetic oil changes; even with my previous HHR LT it was 3k, and I never paid attention to the oil life monitor.

It will be running slugish on 87 because the car has to pull timing to compensate for the knock

Just to point out an inconsistancy, Amsoil does NOT state that their oil meets or exceeds GM's spec. They RECOMMEND using their product in place. It may very well exceed the specs, but they did not submit their oil to GM for testing. Apparently the vendor must bear the cost of testing, and Amsoil had no interest. This almost all legal mumbo-jumbo, with the result of GM being able to dictate what is used and where to buy your aftermaket products, they should be using SAE specifications, under the Magnuson-Moss Act.
From the website:
That means your warranty stands when you use AMSOIL Synthetic Lubricants.

Vehicle manufacturers recommend lubricants according to their viscosity grade and service classification. Any oil, whether it's conventional petroleum motor oil or synthetic, meeting the correct viscosity grade, 5W-30 for example, and the current API and ILSAC North American service classifications may be used without affecting warranty coverage. AMSOIL motor oils are recommended for use in applications requiring these specifications.

I have been using Castrol full synthetic for a few years. It works fine and the 2.4 retains it perfectly. The only downside is it is made by BP.

Somebody is going to yell at me, but I run 10K miles per oil change using Castrol Full Synthetic. My BMW mechanic says it is just fine to do this.

Curious, HE KNOWS this, how??? Sounds like a guess to me. Now if an analysis is done, that may be different.
And understand, I am not arguing the length of the oil change....I wondering how it was determined.

Myself, I have an analysis done on every vehicle I change oil. That includes In-laws, children, grandchildren vehicles. After several analysis', we determine the mileage length based on the results of the analysis and the use of the vehicle.

Although, I personally have not exceeded about 9000 miles on a change, I could have gone longer. The DIC indicated 37% left and the analysis provided a TBN of 3.8.....more than enough to guarantee continued service.
