Transmission going

Hello. I have a 2009 SS Panel 5 speed with limited slip diff option. There is a whining noise that was getting louder & louder over the last few weeks. I brought it in and was told the tranny is shot. I have 251,000 km which are highway kms and not city kms. Has anyone else had a problem with their transmission? Is there a recall?

Nope no recalls, especially at that many miles over your original drive train warranty.
Things wear and it could be just a bearing , perhaps a second opinion at another transmission shop ?

There are other things that cause "a whining noise". Like: cracked flex pipe, bad CV, bad hub/bearing, bad turbo.

How did you narrow it to transmission?

A recall ? For what ?

Honestly. 251k kms. What's that, like 150k miles ? Things do wear out. Especially with high mileage like that.

Bad throw out bearing, bad pilot bearing! That's why I bought my 1970 Pinto for $300.00 back in 1972, the pilot bearing was squealing and the guy was told it needed a new everything from the clutch to the drive shaft, $1.74 cent part , 3 hours under the car, fixed, I sold it for $1,275.00 the next Monday.

Thanks for the replies. I will get a second opinion at a different shop or 2 getting to check the different bearings. I know for sure it's not the wheel bearings. The mileage may sound high to you but I have had 8 cars that I have put on 400K kms with no serious issues.

I understand the high mileage thing, my 2007 2.2 LS has 355,500 klms, Sweetie 's 2003 Sunfire GT 2.2, has 350,000 klms, my last truck a 1988 C1500 GMC had 675,000 klms, all with no big issues, but things did wear out.

The OP has a 5 speed. You don't do a "flush" like they do on the automatics. The 5 speed in the SS only holds 2 qts. of fluid. Guess he could try changing the fluid and see if it helps.( I doubt it will do any good though)

your diff could be going bad. Is the whining noise the same all the time? does it change you push in the clutch?
