There is no solder TSB that I know of. Some dealer have just done it.

I spoke to a GMPD engineer and the said it can be done but you need to support the connection. Solder can and will crack and can cause problems later. A shrink sleeve may help support the connection if you need to solder it.

The correct thing is to get someone to do the GM connections correctly and then it should not be an issue.

ic i have some backfire issues and was hoping solder was the answer but tech is giving problems saying solder will cause more resistance and doesnt want to do it. i thought is was a TSB from the number of people haveing them soldered

I believe people just did it and it was never offically recomended by GM.

Resistance could be an issued but so far most have not seen it. Broken joints could be a problem but not enough time has passed.

The connectors do work if done properly but I get the feeling some are just not getting them done correctly at some dealers. Too many are working fine for it to not be any good.

The tech that did my upgrade said the biggest problem is not using the specified GM Crimping tool, second to that was not crimping it properly with the tool.

I guess he knew what he was doing, because I have had none of the issues others have had.

I often wonder how many techs just crimped the connectors with a regular crimp tool?

On flat rate I suspect many may have not taken the time to find who had the correct tool in the dealer.

Let's face it for many techs this was a first time install and if you are running long on flat rate you are not making money.
