Factory-correct Restorations vs Restomod values in the new Artice by CARiD
The collector car hobby in the United States began back in the 1930s, when a small group of auto enthusiasts recognized that there might be historical value in preserving examples of the original “horseless carriages”.
After World War Two, Baby Boomers fueled the hobby’s growth as they collected the cars of their youth. These hobbyists, interested in cars of the 1950s, ‘60s, and ‘70s, often began with rusty worn-out hulks needing complete overhauls. This in turn fed an expansion of restoration shops, aftermarket parts, and the tools and supplies to support it all.

When they finally have the Benjamins and the spare time, car buffs tend to buy the car(s) they lusted after in their youth but couldn’t afford. That works out to be about a 50-60 year lag for an awful lot of us. Should be no surprise that the iconic late-60’s muscle cars are fetching crazy prices, in any state of restoration, restomodification, or disrepair.

Yeah, I know, late 60’s were prime years for performance, but if you think beat-up Buick Grand Nationals get crazy prices now, just wait 20 years. You’ll see.

Watch the Scottsdale Barrett Jackson auction, you’ll see what’s selling for big money, it’s not the same as even 10 years ago! Now that old convertible needs some love, and about $50,000 in parts to get to be a reliable cruiser! Have you priced out a crate engine and transmission with ECM and TCM then disc brakes and air bags?
