I have a 06 hhr and wanted to know if 17" rims 5x5 would fit with tire sizes 245 45 r17?

I have not checked the "tire rim calculator" located in the TOOLS menu on the menu bar or the one posted previously in this thread. But, I don't think so. Mainly because the width, the stock wheel is 6.5 if you go 5.0 a 245X45 is too wide.

Welcome to the site, your rims would be 17 X 6.5 with a 5 X 110 mm bolt circle.
There is a tire rim calculator in the tool bar click on tools

I moved this to it's on thread from the dead 5 year old thread

A 5x5 bolt pattern will not fit the HHR. HHR is a 5x110.

Depending on the offset of the wheel your putting on, a 245 will fit. I was running 245/40R18's on Cobalt SS wheels and had plenty of clearance. You 245/24R17 is 25.7" and that will clear the strut plate. The offset will determine is the width will work.

Those Cobalt wheels you're running are probably either 7" or 7.5". 245 is about the most you can shoe horn onto those. His 6.5"s though, I don't know if you can even squeeze a 235 on there.
