Exclamation ? About tire life

I have a 2lt with the 17" firestone tires on them and i've noticed that the outside edge of the tire is wearing down really fast. i have about 22k on my car and bought it new. What is causing the tire to wear like this? i have them rotated everytime i take it in to the dealer for an oil change. Is there any warranty on the tires that came with the car that you know of seem like i remember getting something when i bought the car?

I would assume that this is an alighment issue but why wasn't the car set to factory settings when i got it and if it is them why is it eating the tires this way?

Anyone else having the same issue?

MOD please change title to life sorry

johnbrum...

You say you have the tires rotated every time you have the oil changed. How many times is that? You also say "tire", not tireS. So you have one tire wearing on the outside edge? Which tire? If only one tire shows the wear AND it is on the front, I would suggest something happened since the last oil change/tire rotation to distort the alignment.

These cars, as well as many front wheel drive vehicles, are VERY susceptible to pot holes, speed bumps, parking curbs etc. The slightest bump could alter the alignment. You, or someone else, may have encountered something that caused the problem.

Regarding the question on a tire warranty...yes you received a tire manufacturers warranty. But, I doubt very seriously that a warranty would cover damage done to a tire by an alignment problem....especially at 22,000 miles. But, check with your dealer.

Good Luck.

Before Dory's first tire rotation, I noticed that the outer edges of the front tires were wearing down a bit (lot) quicker than those on the rear.

Might be an issue with the 17s.

I have 16s and rotated the tires at 13,000 kms (7,800 miles). Tires are wearing extremely well and even. Will be time to rotate them again when I change the oil in a few weeks.

Sorry it is all of them but they have been rotated so i'm assumming that since they were rotated it shows on all of them, it is starting on the front tires because if you look at them they are wearing more there then on the back ones.

Mine are showing wearing on the edges also (16's)...I didn't rotate until 9K miles and I will do them again at 15K.

Then again I may have new tires before then as I just really dislike these tires anyways...never really cared for Firestones

If I can get a good price on some chrome 17" OEM rims I may make the jump up in size also

I'm actually taking mine to the dealer on Tuesday 10/9 for some tire issues. I seriously doubt they will do anything about it as far as warranty goes, but I'm going to try.
I've rotated mine for the second time now and have 14,500 miles on them. For the past few days I have a strange whirring noise coming from them as they roll down the road(almost as if they're cupped). I'm a bit miffed that this would happen since I keep the correct air pressure in them and rotate them regularly. I know I'll lose the battle when I get to the dealership, but the noise is driving me nuts and I need to get it fixed anyway.

Jayhawker....

I noticed the same thing. At every tire rotation/balance the "road" noise appears to get a little louder.

Do you have the 16's or 17's?

I have 17's and have some pretty serious wearing on the sides (inside and outside edges) just on the front. I moved them to the rear and have not noticed any wearing yet I'm thinking maybe the dealer fixed the alignment and camber issues when the previous owner turned it in, but left the worn tires on the front. Who knows, I'll just have everythink aligned again when I get new tires (falkens or similiar wet tread) any suggestions on brand.
