Advice on new tires
I had my first adventure in the snow with the Firestone Affinity's- 29K. The front end seemed a bit light and tires spun easily but I only have 500 miles of driving experience behind the wheel of the little beast. My previous vehicle was a Pontiac Gran Prix which is a different animal.
I had to replace my OEM tires at around 30,000 miles. Take a good hard look at how much tread is left. I have always been told if you have 4/32 or under of tread left - start looking for new tires. Good luck with the snow we received last night.
I have a 2009 HHR LT in Victory Red which I drive about 30,000 miles/yr. I have 36,000 on there now and I am considering new tires. My OE Firestones are ok but starting to wear thin. I know buying tires has a lot to do with personal choice, but I thought I'd ask for some opinions. I'm a spirited driver but not really an aggressive driver. Any feedbackl would help. Thanks.
I looked at the Contis when I was replacing my Firestones. I liked the reviews on them but in the end I purchased the Goodyear Assurance Fuel Max tires. Stock size. I have roughly 10K on them now and I am still happy with the purchase.
1.000 miles update on new ContiExtremeContact
I've put a little over 1,000 miles on my new tires and so far, so good. They are very smooth on dry roads and hold very well in wet weather. I haven't had the chance to drive them in snow yet, but I'll be driving out to Chicago, from Ct. next week so I'm sure I get the chance before long. I'll update again in the near future. Overall, these are very good, comfortable tires that I would recommend. Hope this input helps. Happy New Year!
I've always liked Continental tires - just couldn't always afford them. Right now I have a set on my wife's Explorer Looks like they will be lasting quite a while. A lot quieter than the original Michelins, too.
