I am using 16" Malibu aluminum cast wheels I bought at a swap meet for $80 I think. 225/60/16 studded snows on the front, straight treads on rear. The studded snows are a bit noisy but pull in the snow rather well. Studded snows cost me $75 off Craigs list, Pair of straight treads cost me $40, $40 to have the mounted and balanced. Pretty reasonable project. My only disappointment/drawback is that the Malibu wheels didn't have the tire sensors. At least I don't have to polish/clean the chrome stock wheels this spring when winter is over.
