Cobalt SS rim help

I bought some cobalt SS rims off craigslist for 130 bucks for the set of 4. The do have some places on the rims that the finish is chipped. ( looks like some sort of plastic/powedercoat) It looks like someone put a wheel weight on the outside of the rims. The damage isn't enough to turn me away from buying the wheels. But I would liek to know if there is anyway that you guys know of to fix the damage so it looks good.

Thanks in advance

John

Check a company call Wheels America they fix bent wheels and curb rash. They are pricey so how bad are the chips?

The wheels are factory powder coated, so the best way to fix them would be to have them media blasted and powder coated again.

A cheaper alternative would be to sand and paint, although it won't last as long as powder coating them.

Its crazy to that they are powder coated form the factory, Most of the cobalt guys strip them with some kind of aviation paint stripper or something. Will that pull powdercoat off?

Yes
i though it was paint. i was at the paint shop and the gm paint book has wheel colors in it. my g6 wheel i know were painted from the factory. and true powdercoat is chem resistant. if solvent takes it off its not powder coat.

It would be safer/easier/faster to have them media blasted. The chemicals required to remove powder coating are vurry dangerous.

[QUOTE=1Panel2NV;391096]It would be safer/easier/faster to have them media blasted...QUOTE]I would do the same. Stripping with chemicals takes a lonnnnnng time & could damage brain cells. Blast it baby!

If its just some minor chips and you don't want to repaint/powder coat the whole rim. You could clean up any tarnish/ dirt, then with them laying flat face up flow a little clear coat into the chips. Just use a clear coat touch up and flow coats into the chips till they build up till its level with the area around them. Not the greatest fix but it will make the wheels look better and should last a while.
