Goodyear GT+Roadhazard

Hey, I finally bit the bullet and bought the GoodYear GT's for my SS. They look sweet and I imagine will be a world of improvement over the stock Michelins. 26K for the Michelins, the wear was to the tread bars.

The Good: They look to have serious rain channels so hydro planing should be a thing of the past.
The Bad: They were uber expensive, $914 out the door without roadhazard.
The not so much fun: they dinged me for an alignment saying the "toe in was off" I'd bet this is a huge racket and everyone gets dinged for an alignment. The car drove straight as an arrow, the tires wore even. Ok, mechanics chime in and rip me a new one...

The Question, do I shell out another $83 for the roadhazard? I will keep this car, it will see some winter driving now that it has better shoes, I don't drive like an idiot but it is Buffalo and we have potholes. What's the thought?

Been shopping for some all weather tires myself. Lots of others have got the eagle gt's, haven't heard any thing besides they wished they lasted longer. That usually means the performance will be nice. I think I have decided because the goodyears I had last year, F1's failed me at 17,000 I will go try some generals. http://www.tirerack.com/tires/TireSe...cturer=General

Goodyear roadhazard goes by time now, not miles. So if you have winter tires on it for several months the roadhazard is still ticking away even though the tires are not on the car.

I know, I have two sets with the insurance and each sits out half the year..... I got "half ripped off", twice. I did get a free tire due to a puncture, but had to pay for the mount/balance.... Goodyear said the tire was out of full replacement due to age, but the tires had only been on the car for a little over a month.... They were 6 months "old" though. Shop manager couldn't over ride Goodyear's policy. He had no issue replacing the tire as this happened the same day I had the summer tires put back on, like 3 hours later. Blam! flop/flop/flop....

When My Goodyears had separation on two of the 4, at 17,00 they wanted me to kick in 400 more to replace them, seems to be a trend.

Road hazzard are a sucker bet. I mean this in a good way. They try to sell you on the Hazzard warranty knowing few tires will fail. If you can afford to replace one tire let it go. The hazzard warranties are tire dealer profit centers. It is like Vegas they are the house and they never lose.

Todays modern tires are pretty tough and most never have an issue also many if they do can repaired. Also most tires have some pro rated warranty that will take care of most things if it is a MFG issue.

The GT's wear is average for most decent performing performace tires. If you want them to stick you give up some wear. The Pilots on the other hand wear but gave no stick.

Many of todays best performing tires will not last 25,000 miles some do not go more than 18,000 like the new option tires on the Z06 and ZR1. Those Pilots are race sticky but their life is limited.

At least the GT is a cheaper good performing performace tire.

I am glad I get a discount on Goodyears from Family members.

Note now is the time to buy Goodyear tires. They normally offer rebates this time of year. The Tire Rack is where a lot of Goodyear Employees get their tires. Often they will have the cheapest price.

Sam-
Generals are tough to get warranty problems fixed (if there were to be any). Must have proof of every tire rotation & etc.. just fwiw.

Kinda leaves out the DIY guys..

I think RH warranties are a rip-off with too many conditions. I got that out the door pricing when I shopped for my GTs, that's why I took the on-line route. A set of 225/35/20 GTs from TreadDepot for 435.00 shipped. Local Goodyear mounted them for 170.00. They were shocked at what I paid, they had my GTs on sale at 140.00 each. I heard about these tires not lasting, not sure how true. I dont run mine in the winter or do burnouts so I didn't see it as an issue. mine will probably dry rot from age..

We have a local tire dealer called Dobbs. They have one price and it includes all the stuff, such as road hazard, included in the price.

If I had used the Goodyear Friends and Family discount, there was no warranty other than from Goodyear and it was only defects in material and workmanship.

I paid Dobb's out the door price. It was $40 higher than the Goodyear plan and included all the icing other dealers charge for.
