Has anybody tried 255/40/18?

Have to get some new tires and was wondering how big is to big. I did the calculator thing and the tire is only .06 bigger in height so i was just wondering about the turning clearance. I am thinking the BFG's might be ok? Any help would be greatly appreciated

I have 265 width on the front and 275 width on the rear without rubs anywhere, even over bumps and uneven surfaces. The rims have a big part in the overall picture as far as rubbing. If the offsets are wrong or the widths are wrong then even the skinny tires could rub

255/40/18 all the way around. I also run 10.5" slicks that would be almost a 270 wide up front. 255 are on stock rims. Slicks are on 38mm backspace both do not rub.

bugflipper, can we get a pic of that setup? i'd like to see how much bulge there is in the sidewall, and how big they look in there.

I am looking to put 18s with a biggest possible tire on my HHR. I've done a bunch of searching (although there wasn't much to search through) and this was the best I could find

there still is no mention of rim diameter, offset, or any specific tire size

anyone on here have any realworld experience with this?

and to throw another curveball at it....how about with dropped springs?

thanks for any help

good info guys! It'll be a while 'till I need tires, but I was already thinking I'd like wider ones. Man, I would think 255 or 265 would look killer on it, but I also would like to see some pix!

I have 265/35ZR18 on the front and it is not a problem. I think one could go to the next size wider on the front considering how much clearance I still have and I am rolling on 8.5" wide rims.
And mine is lowered using Goldline springs.

thanks for the reply. I did a search of some of your older posts, but I don't see any offsets. I did see that you have spacers though.

it's nice to know that those tires fit without any rubbing, but I'm also trying to find out what rim offsets I need without spacers or any other spindle mods, although I have no problem with having to roll or grind my quarterpanels because that's a easy and free modification

thanks again
