Kumho Ecsta 4X

I just put 4 of the Kumho Ecsta 4X tires on my 06 HHR LT, they are replacing a set of Michelin Primacy MXV4 tires that were quiet, but very disappointing in the wet and were hard riding and also had started to crack in many places. I paid $107 each, size 215/50-17 from Tire Rack with a $50 mail in rebate, which is good until Feb 2012 I believe. Anyway, I have put around 1,000 miles on these tires and they are great in all conditions. They handle great, are very quiet, the ride is a little on the firm side due to the 95 load rating(factory is 90) and the XL sidewall, but not at all harsh. The dry handling is great, wet is better and I have had some snow driving the past few days and they did a good job, no sliding or lock up to speak of. After researching tires for many months, these tires fit the bill for me perfectly. I was looking at the Continental DWS, the Pirelli P Zero Nero All Season, General HP, and Goodyear Tripletread. None of these tires could come close to the price of the 4X, really only the Continental DWS was the only other tire. It is a good tire, but the set would have been $80 more plus the rebate, they would have been around $130 more for the set so I went with the Kumho's. I had Kumho's about 10 years ago and they performed great so I went with them agian. We will see how they wear and age but right all looks good.

They are a really nice looking tire, especially on the HHR. I will post a picture when I get home. One of the best looking sidewalls I have seen, in my opinion.

I had some kumhos' on an old Monte Carlo I had.. They did fine for me..

These new 4X ones are reported to be much better..

I see you stayed with stock size..Hard to see tires on your pic tho...Sharp Ride !!!!

I have same rims, but bumped tires up to 225/50/17 Night & day diff in ride quality..

They look great on your car does the 4 x stand for All season now?
I had a set of kumhos on my 46 ford 2 door sedan show car a few years back and I was sold on them.so much so that when I finished my 55 chevy below I put a set of 17" Kumho ecsta's on.We got stuck driving through a major down poor on our way to the Poconos race track a couple years back and these tires worked great in the wet extremely quite in the highway and worked very well on the poconos track at 120 mph
Great tires , they look great and do not seem to crack over the years like some of the other brands including Michelin.

Sleeper
Any issues with the slightly taller and wider tire
I know with my 215/50/17's they are about a 1/4" from hitting the rear plastic inner panels.
How much did it throw off the speedometer 2 MPH ?

The 4X is the new "ultra" high performance all season tire for kumho, it will eventually replace the ASX tire. The Pirelli P Zero Nero All Season was the benchmark for this tire and I am really impressed with the job Kumho did with this tire. It really does respond like a summer tire in handling but the ride and wet and snow traction are great. I will gladly trade in some tread life if I get great performance and value and these tires deliver. I fully expect this tire to be either the top ranked or a very close second to the Continental DWS when it gets enough reviews to qualify on Tire Rack. I looked hard at the Continental's but the set would have been almost $150 more over the Kumho's and Continental's sometimes wear faster than other tires, at least with some of the other Conti's out there so I went with the Kumho's and I have no regrets. Sorry about the pics, I didn't get a close up of the tire on the car, I was getting ready to leave to go see my wive's family and just wanted to take some pics with the cargo box. By the way, in very heavy winds on the trip and near white out conditions when we came home on Jan. 2, the HHR with the box on top did remarkably well on the highway, I was expecting it to be an handful with the increased drag and height and also the factor that I have taken off my front sway bar but the box added very little noise and MPG's dropped from around 30 at 65 MPH to around 25 but handling was totally unaffected.
