lugnuts

Howdy, this will be my first question. I just put American Racing wheels on for summer. I wonder if anyone else has noticed the lugnuts have exposed threads indicating they only secure the wheel by half the length of the nut. The studs have the blank area on the end for assembly line use that just comes flush with the end of the nut, which is only treaded 2/3 on the wheel side. Kind of makes me nervous. I rechecked the torque twice and they stay tight, just looks wrong. Any thoughts?

You probably had steel wheels prior to installing the American Racing Wheels. All Alum wheels have a thicker lug nut seat (6/10") for needed strength. Just as long as you have 6 or more threads exposed before applying the lug nut you will be fine. If you feel uncomfortable with the look of the present lugs, I might suggest two things that can change the look.

1. get shorter lug nuts
2. get closed end lug nuts

Either way though, you won't be grabbing any more threads on the stud than you do now. If you are still worried, you can by ET style lug nuts and they reach into the seat of the wheel 1/4" deeper.

Thanks for that info. I forgot about those ET lugnuts. I might change all the studs, or not.

Not necessary. American Racing is an OE manufacturer for GM. Those wheels are built for that car. The chrome "Bulge" style lug-nut is the best lug to use for this application. Continually retourqueing is not recommended because it will stretch those soft GM studs. As long as you have the correct fitment for that vehicle; you'll be fine.
