The tread on my orig equip Firestones was worn. I also picked up a screw. Glad I got 'em. Last night I had to drive down to SC & back on US26 in heavy rain & it made it through all that very well. The 'Aqua-Chute' was doin' its thing.
Plus I have always liked BFG's. Since back in the 'Radial TA' days

So far in the forums, it sounds like almost ANY tire is smoother riding and quieter than the Firehawks. I guess GM was going for price and quick response when they plumped for Firehawks. God Bless, Marc

I hope you're BFG's do better than the Comp VR's that came on my GTP Comp G. THey were wasted in 24K Miles. That was with the wife driving and no burnouts.

I have liked the TA's I have owned but they never hold up for many miles. But then to be fair sll 4 sets have been some kind of Comp TA.

Yah I'm pretty sure the 'comps' are softer. These tires are a new release from BFG so I'm thinking they'll probably hold up pretty well.

Here's a point to ponder.I'm wondering if GM,like Ford did with it's full size trucks and SUVs,didn't put less than grippy tires on the HHR to avoid a potential roll over problem? The vehicle would be sliding first rather than grip and flip it.That would explain the less than stellar grip of the Firehawks.

Oh, I don't think it would be very easy to roll an HHR. It is a Cobalt platform, and most of it's internals sit pretty low. The roof is high, but we all know how thin that sheet metal is. Overall, I am betting you'd have to work hard to roll one. I think the tires are a cost choice overall. It certainly wasn't a noise or ride choice! ;-) God Bless, Marc

Firestones cost more?

Ironically, the replacement firestones were $40. more (each!) than the BFG's. My guess is that GM got a good deal $$ on 10,000 of 'em (or how ever many they had to order) for the HHR's.

I agree. I guess they got a package deal at Sam's Club. ;-) Heh, heh, heh.

I had no idea that the Firestones would be $40 more each. Youch.

God Bless, Marc
