New Tires?
New Tires?
Has anyone bought new tires for stock rims? My front tires need replacement with only 25k miles on them. Is this normal? I bought my hhr used and didn't notice them at first. I will be driving across the country at the end on Feb, from nyc to cali, and I wanted to replace them before I go. Anyone know what brand of tires I should buy and how much they run? Should I buy the same stock tires? ...ps I love my HHR!! Traded in my mustang for it and am not regretting it! Thanks Jim
Hi Jim.
To the club!
The HHR is a fun auto to be mobile in! A lot of modding potential, and more coming all the time!
A cross country trip will surely get you and your car on the same page. It should be quite a fun adventure. Do you have the XM radio?
As far as tires, I plan on replacing all mine with Goodyear Triple treads

They look to be a fine all season with the capability of delivering decent cornering in most weather conditions.
I suppose if you are just changing two though, you may want to stay with the stock Firestones. Or you may want to give the car all new sneakers and get four new ones.
I am also interested in the Micheline Hydro Edge, but they do not come in the size for my HHR.
What size tires are yours, 16 or 17?

I think the tires should`ve lasted a little longer, 36,000 mi. seems to be about right. Maybe the warranty on the HHR (which is transferrable) will still cover the tires, pro-rated...
But the Michelins sound good, I once had a set and they were nice. Made the car feel much better. (not the HHR, awhile back )
Another good performance tire is Pirelli, very nice...
See about the warranty thing though...

I replaced mine with Goodyear Eagle Responsedge. All you could ask for in a tire at a great price.

Hey Guys, thanks for the replies. My hhr was most likely a rental. It had 24k miles when I bought it, but mechanically it was in excellent condition and the exterior only had some minor scratches. I had it detailed and everyone thinks it is a brand new car. I got it for less than 12k from a dealer with a 90 day warranty. It has been more than 90 days so the tire issue is all on me. Plus I hate dealing with any dealers. I am going to replace all 4 tires at the same time, just the front seem really worn compared to the rear tires. I was just wondering what tires everyone was using or bought to replace the stock tires. When I checked sears’ website they had the correct size tires but when you search for the HHR, they come up with “Shopping for: 2006 CHEVROLET HHR
We're sorry, we currently do not have Tires online that fit your requirements.” So I was a little confused. Thanks again for the help and I’ll check prices for the Goodyear tires mentioned. ……………….My HHR did not come with factory xm radio so I bought the roady xt and I love it for long road trips. Also I can bring it in the house and use it.

Sorry about that. Here is a little details about my ride. Its a 2006 HHR LT Sunburst orange, automatic trans with no auto start remote. It maybe a rental but for the price, it was worth it. Every other used HHR I was looking at was 4 or 5 grand more with the same options or less. Some LS models I looked at, they wanted 17k for them. I love this car but it is a Chevy, so I wasnt spending close to 20k on it. Hopefully I got a deal and not the shaft.
Sounds like whoever owned your HHR before never had the tires rotated It's one of those things a lot of people don't think about until they notice their front tires have had it.
I always go with Michelin when replacing tires. Put "MXVs" on our Altima.

PS. Not sure why you wouldn`t spend 20k on a "CHEVY" specifically, but it`s ok.
Black Beauty, I didnt mean to offend you or chevy owners in general. Its just chevy is not known for high resale value or quality control, ie like honda or nissan. They are getting better from what I can see in my HHR. Last chevy I owned was a 1975 nova(wish they would bring back the straight 6). Most buddies I have that own chevys, are neutral in their opinions about their cars. I have owned mostly fords and I will NEVER buy one again in my lifetime. As of the 20k for a chevy, 20k for any car is just too much. That is why I buy used newer cars. Call me cheap but that is just me. .....Also I'll check with the dealer about the auto start, I have to go and get a spare key and remote this week anyway. Thanks again.
