Refinish wheels or buy new ones? Bigger tires?
Refinish wheels or buy new ones? Bigger tires?
Have a 2006 LT. 17" wheels. I'm fairly certain they are the chrome oem and not the silver oem.
Many scratches, a few deep most not. Some wear in spots, some chips.
Can a person get these refinished at a decent price as compared to buying new factory or custom rims? I like the style and look of these factory rims and would like to keep them. Price range for refinishing acceptable or should a person just get new rims entirely?
Front tires are 215 50ZR17 91W-----Rear tires are 215 50R17 93V
Can I go a little bigger without rubbing against wheel well and other?
Any suggested sizes for an over-sized install?
Thanks

silverstreet- Do you mean have them re-chromed ? Re-chrome would cost a bit.
Are you sure they are chrome ? A pic would help..
Might be polished & clear coated.
I have 225/50/17 ZR's on mine, love em... & many others here also..
PS: Why the ZR fronts, & the R on back ? Not great to mix different type of rubber.. Fronts are softer & stickier. Backs are so-so.. Can get squirilly in wet....
The obstacle to pay attention to is clearing the Front lower strut plate.. my 225's are 26.1" tall,
They clear with a tight .300 clearance.
Most 225/50/17 are about 25.9" tall..

I bought the HHR with the current tires on them, I kinda found that weird to. The rears are Dunlops and the fronts Hankooks. Other then the scratched up rims, mismatched tires, flex pipe and the fact there were no floormats or cargo gear of any kind I got a great deal. 06 with 50k well maintained and the manual I wanted for 8k.
I almost traded it last week for a old 95 Eclipse all decked out but caught myself from making a big long-term mistake.
Anyway, here are some pics of wheels.

silverstreet- Those are polished & clear coated mags.. Not chrome.
You can have them polished to remove most of the scratches.. Or paint them yourself after prep, even with the tires on..
The tire differences are likely due to previous owner not rotating, & just adding new fronts..
Pic size limit per site rules is 640 x 480 ...

As for the pic sizes I had no idea. Usually sites deny or resize pics when sizing rules are in affect.
OK. I doubt some of these scratches could be polished out and even though I do some body work upgrades and painting along audio installs on the side I think I will just get custom wheels being my free time for myself is limited.
I noticed here
http://www.finishlinewheels.com/CHEVY/HHR/2006/
that the stock wheels are 6.5". I was thinking they were 7.5? When purchasing new wheels can I just grab 17" 7.5 wheels and 225/50R-17 94W BSW goodyear eagle gt's without clearance and fit issues?
