Tire pressure monitor

Woke up Sunday morning to find the PS rear tire flat. Upon taking it off and looking it over, I found a nail in it.
Tire can't be repaired as nail is in the sidewall area. Replacement is on order.

Meanwhile, she's sporting the spare tire.

TPMS light is not on?!? It does light during starting the HHR, so I know the bulb is good.

What gives??? I really don't know to much about the system and how it works, not getting much from reading the good book.

Are you driving around with the damaged tire in the cargo area?

Also, are you getting a pressure reading at all on the DIC for that tire?

Yes, I have the tire in the back right now.

Haven't checked the DIC yet.

Since the tire is 'with you' the system doesn't see the monitor as 'missing', which may be why you don't have the constant light showing. It just might show really low pressure in the DIC.

Ok, I can see how the monitor can still "see" the wheel with it being in the back.

But, I was under the impression that the warning light should be "on", seeing as how the tire is flat. Isn't the whole point of the system to warn you of a low tire?

Guess I need to do some reading on it, see if I can gain any knowledge about how it all is supose to work.

My light stays on for as long as the tire is low. I have never had one with no air at all. I would think that the light should be on with 0 psi

My RF sensor keeps giving me errors and the stupid dealerships just keep reseting the system. I want the damn thing replaced...

When I dented one of my factory 16's, I had the warning light on in the dash and the DIC displayed "--" as the reading for that tire

New tire was mounted on the HHR before I got to look at the DIC, so..

Still, I can't help but wonder why the warning light wasn't on.

I just had a flat yesterday, a piece of wood decided to spear my poor tire! Anyways, with the spare on, the low tire light was on and the psi showed at 1, and no, I didn't have the original tire in the car.
