Tire Pressure Sensor System

Question concerning this system...

Does anyone know where these things are at or what they look like? We have a 2008 LT and yesterday my wife told me the tire pressure indicator, a warning indicator in the DIC came on, and the left rear sensor is not reading any pressure at all displaying "--" for the LR tire. I've crawled under the car and found tubes that go into the brake drums, but nothing that looks like a sensor. I've also checked all of the tires and they had the correct pressure all the way around according to the tire pressure gage. Pictures would be helpful also. Appreciate any assistance anyone can offer. Thanks in adavnce.

Your problem can be caused by a faulty sensor. If it is faulty, the 36K warrantly would cover its replacement. Some have also stated that occasionally it needs to be "relearned" into the system, but in my car every time this happened it was a bad sensor. I have had 3 replaced, but none in almost a year. They all failed at nearly the same time, so it was probably a bad batch from the factory.

Sensor Location

The sensors are part of the valve stem on the wheel. Be careful using any "Fix-a-Flat" type temporary tire repair kits as they tend to damage the sensors. The only approved can of air is what came from GM with the car. I have had this issue off and on since I bought my car in February '10. Just no time to take it in. If you change the valve cap make sure you use either a plastic one or aluminum as the steel ones will freeze onto the stem and ruin the sensor. Same problem with replacing the valve core, use an aluminum core or risk ruining the valve stem and sensor.
OBTW, These are wireless sensors operating similar to an RFID tag so you won't see any connections to the car unlike a Hummer H1.

Thanks for the info. This is the second time we've had this happen and the vehicle is now out of warranty so I can't take it to the dealership without getting ripped off I'm sure. Any suggestions how to fix this? Is there anything I can do to solve this problem or do I need to take it in? Also, where is the battery so I can disconnect the negative terminal to relearn the computer? I know there is a negative connection under the hood that connects to the fuse block and in the trunk area next to the spare tire. Again, thanks for the assistance.

Thanks for the reply. Not really sure if that helps me any though. The sensor is inside the tire? If so, that would mean that I need to unmount my tire to fix it, correct? I do agree with one of the comments in the other thread though about another nanny to tell us our tire pressure is low. It's just another thing to go wrong so the dealership can rape us for service and parts costs.

I have the same year hhr, yes the sensor is in the tire it actually is the nozzle where you checked the air connected on the inside of the rim. Yes you would have to unmount the tire to get to it, I recently had an issue with mine and priced the sensors at discount tire; I think they were $40.00 each or so, not too bad. My problem was related to the new radio I installed but I fixed it now by replacing the radio again. Good luck with the issue

Looks like it's just mounted to the stem to keep it in place?

One of mine went out a few days ago.

If you have an 08 I am sure you are in need of tire soon anyway. Wait until you get new tires to replace them....
