Our 2006 HHR has died and before it is scrapped I want to transfer the wheels/rims & tires to our daughters 1998 Malibu which is in need of new tires. The HHR tires are relatively new and I would hate to just scrap them.

The 2006 HHR tire size is 215 / 55R16 / 93H. The 1998 Malibu tires read, 215 / 60R15 / 94H. Im just simply not an authority on tires and could use some advice if these wheels & tires would fit the Malibu. Any help would be appreciated.

The tire size will work.
Just not sure about the rim size of a 98 Malibu. Someone else will chime in and give you an answer.

 

Thanks for the answer about the actual tires....hoping someone has some info about the wheels/rims. Sure would be easier to just swap out the wheels then have to remove the tires from the rims.

 

Looks like I found the answer to my question about the actual wheels/rims. The HHR has a bolt pattern of 5 x 110 and the Malibu has a bolt pattern of 5 x 115. It appears that Im out of look being able to use the HHR wheels on the Malibu because of the different bolt pattern. This is a bummer!!!

 

Oh. I thought it would work, too, but that's a show-stopper.

If the Malibu is 5x115, then no the HHR rims won't work. Just have to swap the tires between the rims.

 

just take HHR wheels & tires with the 1998 Malibu and have them swap the tires to the wheels. What is wrong with the 06 HHR that it needs to be scrapped? Thats just not right.

 

Our HHR has 235,000 miles on it and the engine has given out. Need a new engine and a lot of front end work. Total repair cost is in the $3,500 range. So we are going to scrap it and buy a new vehicle.

Also just realized that I cannot use the HHR tires on the Malibu. The HHR tires are R16's and the Malibu needs R15's. Cant put a 16" tire on a 15" rim no matter how much air you pump into them, lol. So I'm totally out of luck with the tires.
