I've used the search and came up confused. I'm looking for a straight answer if possible about what rim size/tire size combo I would need for my 2LT for winter tire setup. I just called my local tire guy and found out it would kill me for $214 a tire for Blizzak and that was all they could offer in my size. Any help is greatly appreciated.

 

What size tire are you talking about?

Unless you tell us what tire size you are looking at, along with what rim (stock or some aftermarket) it's kinda hard to second guess.

 

Tires: 205/65R15 Bridgestone Blizzak WS70 Blackwall
Rims: 15X6.5 New Steel Wheel Black Painted

The second option was 215/60R15 tire/rim combo with Winterforce tires. I used the Custom rims, wheel tire packages for your ride - RIMSnTIRES.com calculator and found the first was almost exact to what my 17" factory wheels are overall diameter size. My concerns are with clearances with brakes and suspension on the 2LT package.

 

2LT could run a 16 inch stock steel rim and 205/65R16 winter snows like a Blizak or comparable , I run stock rims and BFG Advantage T/A all season tires up here in the great white north, no problems in snow, rain, ice, they work for me and my wife's car she drives 90 miles a day around trip to work no problems with traction at all!

Would 16's off a 06/07 Cobalt fit an HHR?

 

I'd stick with the same rim diameter and tire size as what you have already - ie: 215/50-17. It just makes it easier and less complicated if you have to mount them back and forth, and run mismatched tires/rims on a temporary basis.

You should be able to pick up 17" steel rims for way less than $100 each, or inexpensive mags for a bit over $100-$125. Check the local autowreckers if you are looking to same some $'s. Half decent snow tires can be had for $125 up here - but if you want the more expensive ones they are available of course. If the tire shop is only offering the one tire that fits, I'd find another tire store.

 

My 16" Rims are 205-60-R16 tire and I found Blizzaks on TireRack dot com for $87/ea for that size.

 

I checked a heap of places near me on Car-Part Interchange and several other pull a part places and basically gave up. The prices I saw in many cases were the same as new or even higher than new prices for rims including just regular steelies. I ended up going with the 205/60/16 Firestone Winterforce (a tire we use on our Sunfire) and the 16" steel rim TireRack had in stock. Between hunting, finding, picking up and getting just rubber on rim I would have come out to the same price or more. This way they get em, mount emm, ship emm, and all I need to do is swap them out seasonally.

I chose the 16" after finding the brakes would be a close fit and you guys recommendation. Thanks for the help it is much appreciated. :)

 

I think you will be happy with you're purchase!! Save driving ! And the lug nut torque is 100 ft/lbs

Yes Cobalts well fit, just make sure you get the 5 lug Cobalts.
