Winter tires for '08 SS

Well, after driving in to work today, I realize I need some winter tires. I have a '08 SS without the Brembo brakes, and am not sure what to get. Any suggestions? Would I be better off buying some different, smaller wheels? Thanks!

I bought a set of 16" steel wheels and winter tires from Tire Rack last year. They were $600 shipped, and I don't have to mess around with mounting and unmounting tires every year.

Any links? What tires did you end up with?

I'd like to do the same, but it doesn't seem that there are any available right now.

I know people will call me crazy, but I really ejoy driving this thing on the snow tires. It's a lot more, shall I say, lively

Back when I lived in snow country I used Goodyear Eagle Ultra Grips, they are used by quite a few state police departments in the winter. I've always used what the cops run because they run in all the nasty stuff, like the average winter in Erie PA.

I think the best idea, if you want good winter traction, is to get a second set of wheels, 16s or 17s, and put a set of Bridgestone Blizzaks on them. While I've written on this site in other threads about Goodyear tires that I test, if I wanted some true winter tires, for frequent use in snow-covered and icy roads, the Blizzak is the way I'd go.
