Removing the side cover gives access to the solenoids Removing the fluid pan and filter gives access to the fluid transfer pipe. Both tasks can be done with the HHR on jack stands and the use of a hydraulic floor jack to lower the engine cradle and transmission down enough to get the side pan off.

That rubber tube , just insert a piece of weed wacker plastic line, wiggle it about and watch the crud and water drain out.
