Replacing my engine
Hey guys just joking the site. I have found lots of great info on some minor issues but now I have a blown motor. I have a 2.2 2006 hhr. My question is can I use other motors from GM? For instance Malibu or colbalt or Saturn. Any info is great guys thanks in advance

If you have an 06 then you have a slightly different motor than any other year 2.2L. For an easy and direct swap your motor needs to come from another 06 GM car. this is because they use different ignition parts including a different reluctor wheel and crank sensor. The reluctor wheel is not serviceable without removing the crank.
In another thread it was questioned if one could use a newer motor if you also used it's harness and engine computer. Since non standard motor swaps are done that way I do not see why that would not be possible. But the work involved is not simple.
Either of these options as you can see will add a lot more work. This will also increase costs. So again be sure the motor is from an 06 and you will be good to go.

Here is my thread on engine swapping

The '06 really is a different animal than the rest of the HHR's you might be lucky to find an engine from a Saturn that will fit and I think also a G6 but its gotta be an '06, that's why I went with SW Engines. I got the 2 year warrantee so my total cost was like $1315.00 which included shipping. The shop I hired to do the job charged me around a grand to put it in.
I lack the equipment to do full engine swaps these days so I had to hire it done.
