I bought my 2008 HHR SS used when it had 32,000 kms on it and have driven it another 36,000 kms and it needs brakes. I drove my last two vehicles, bought new, a 2000 Windstar and a 1991 tercel and went 400,000 kms on each and still didn't need their first brake job and I had them checked every 6 months. I drive highways about 90% of the time. Should I only expect these brakes to last under 70,000 kms? And do you know what was the original tires the 2008 came with? It had 225/45/18 Michelins on it, don't know if they were the original tires or not, but have to replace those now also and the dealer can only find Toyo Versado Eco tires that size in an all-season in the Edmonton area now. I hear there is a rubber shortage in the States. I'm not used to having to get new tires every year either.

That kinda depends how you drive my fronts were gone at 32k, but stopping from over 100 takes more brakes so I switched to Brembos at 67k. I haven't noticed a shortage of tires, worn out three sets. Try tire rack. Goodyear f1 as. Worked well up there. Have them shipped to the dealers address.

I think someone was being a little sarcastic with you and was referring to a different meaning of "rubber".

Noone was joking about the shortage of rubber, I heard it on the news and they were saying there was a tire shortage in the States right now. My dealership checked everywhere trying to find me Michelins in my size here in Edmonton, Alberta, and everyone was out of stock. Stupidly they put BF Goodrich g-force com2's on it, and I couldn't get out of my driveway, which was shovelled first, and couldn't get it to move on ice at all. I refused to pay for them, and it took them a week to find another set..(I use 225/45/18's) and finally put all season Toyo Versado Eco tires on it. The Goodrich ones which were much quieter on dry pavement than the michelins, but definitely not made for Canadian Winters. I don't know yet whether I'll like the Toyos, but I was able to get into and back out of my driveway yesterday finally. Like the Michelins, they are just as noisy and you feel every bump and crack in the road, but at least they are All Season tires, time will tell how they wear, you can't find any user reviews on the net on them yet.

That's news to me. 28K to 32K is to be expected if you drive the SS like it was meant to be driven. Some will get even less miles. Sorry I don't have a kilometer to mile calculator handy.

400,000 kms converts to 248,548 miles.......

You got about 43-44K miles out of your brakes.

There is no tire shortage in the states.
