Fuel Guage Follies

Back when I first got my 09 we took a long trip immediately within a couple weeks of getting it ( after new tires and general maintenance ) and it did great going and on the way home as well except midway on the return trip the fuel guage on the dash just suddenly dropped to empty??? Stopped at the station and filled up, which was approximately 1/2 tank and no issues since, just an odd glitch. Well fast forwards to now, it will occasionally drop to empty from 1/2 tank or under but it will slowly go back to normal where it was before. What could be causing this?

Until I got to "slowly back to normal" I was thinking loose wire. Maybe, the fuel pump was replaced and the wire didn't geton tight.
There are codes associated with the sensor; P0461, P0462, P0463, P0464. If it goes flatline without a code it indicates high resistance. It is basically a variable resistor using low ref

Ok Ill look into that, I dont think theres a code but Ill check with the reader. When the guage drops to E the display shows LOW FUEL, but as the Guage slowly rises the low fuel goes back to the odometer reading.... I just hate when it does it as I know there is gas in the car.

Order a fuel pump that includes the fuel level sender. Or just refuel every 250 to 300 miles.

Thats what I usually do... a few times I pushed the limits of an empty tank ( I know its not good to do for the fuel pump ) but its only during those dire moments far between stations.
