HHR SS Auto: Transcooler

So lately I've been meaning to post up some pictures of my Transcooler that I'm running on my wagon. This was surprisingly the first thing I did to it when I picked it up. I was doing some reading on a ls forum and the fwd v8 guys with the 4t65 transmissions were having good luck with the addition of a secondary cooler. Now obviously not everyone needs to install something like this but with my plans for my wagon I wanted to make sure to maximize Trans life. Sorry for the crappie cell picture.

When you install one of these inline with the radiator you must be careful to hook the hoses up to the correct flow. If you do it backwards it actually heats the fluid up.

IIRC, the flow goes to the radiator then the cooler. But read the directions.

If you bypass the radiator you need to double the size of the cooler. Like the one shown.

I always assumed the intercooler was as high as the radiator, never seen one though.

Don how would it heat the fluid up? from what I know about hvac and cooling systems. It seems impossible to heat the fluid as it passes through a cooler. I could see maybe not optimized cooling but with even with the lines being there's nothing there to induce heat back in. It's still being pulled out when it passes through the coolers.

Donbrew. The intercooler on the SS sits way down low. Under the metal bumper.

It would heat it up because one cooler is hotter than the other. I experienced the phenomenon personally.
