The Many Sounds of our Wagons!

Oh i know, but i meant to ask "should I have it removed?" My main concern is having it sound crappy since I already have a aftermarket muffler. Will the combination of the aftermarket muffler and the removal of the resonator make it sound "too" loud and sound like a civic or something?

May be too much...this my worry. A buddy of mine says mine needs more growl but if I put an aftermarket muffler on I'm afraid it'll be too much. I may put a dynomax on since they are relatively quiet anyways. Honestly I kinda like the sound I'm getting now...quiet at idle but it can be heard under acceleration.

On my vibe I traded in towards my hhr I had an 18" glasspack and a magnaflow muffler. It was deep sounding above 2500 but idled barely louder than stock. I actually had two vibes both with 5sp and 1zz the other had a metal core cat, vibrant resonator and silverline titanium canister. It was way too loud lol. So each part can affect your sound even on identical cars. With these ecotec engines being a decent displacement for a 4 pot I'd say try a short glasspack in place of the resonator.

I had a custom exhaust on my 02 Grand Am and originally had a straight pipe to the Magnaflow Muffler without a resonator and it was too much, especially in the cabin. I ended up using a round Magnaflow Muffler as a resonator and it was throaty but not annoying.

My opinion is that 4 and 6 cylinder engines only need to sound good from inside the vehicle. It is completely obvious that an engine is NOT a V8 from outside the vehicle, no matter what you do to the exhaust system. Only V8 engines can produce the ear-pleasing harmonics that made the 60's muscle cars sound so good.
The less sound a non-V8 vehicle makes on the outside, the better.
