How to replace rotors and pads on 06 HHR
#51
Is it common for the rotor to wobble a bit after assembly? I get a rhythmic knocking under harder than normal braking from the left front and I've taken it to the dealership. They'be changed out the steering system including the column and both front struts to very little change. Any ideas?
New calipers? Usually "warped" rotors get the blame, but "rhythmic knocking" sounds more like a worn out caliper piston. Are they old enough to worry about that?
Caliper slides could be bad/need lube/Not installed correctly.

My question or comment on this is why drilled and slotted rotors. Yes I have heard the line about disapating the heat, and no dust build up. What about the fact that they can not be turned on a conventional brake lathe and you have to buy new rotors every time. I don't see the sense in it .

Personally I think anyone who turns a rotor is getting ripped off, especially with how thing the OEM specs on our rotors are in the first place.
If you do it yourself, you always replace the rotor.

Where you getting $20 rotors? Best I can find are around $30, my PEPBoys charges $15 each to turn them. There is enough meat to turn them at least once. I drive at least 70,000 miles a year, so that 50% savings make a difference to me.

Rotor shudder is probably the single most annoying thing on any car. Would take a squeaky belt over rotor shudder. It is cheap insurance for 5 bucks more to get new.
